Since his recent arrest for possession, Delonte West has been pretty much MIA. Though he has suffered depression and a mood disorder for years, sources say is rarely this absent, and many are worried about him.
Delonte has missed two days of the Cavs training camp thus far, and has failed to notify anyone on the team as to the reason why. Lebron James himself says he has tried to contact Delonte a couple of times, but has gotten no answer or call back. Mike Brown, the Cavs coach, says that his absences are unexcused and that he will be fined for them without a doubt. It seems as though he himself has not spoken to Delonte but Danny Ferry, the team's GM has, declining to make any further comments.
When questioned, Lebron gave his two cents to the media and said that "basketball has nothing to do with what's going on. He needs to take as much time as he needs, and when he comes back, we'll welcome him as we've always done."
Although it is good to see his team supporting him, and also good to hear that Delonte has recently touched base with their GM, the season is starting soon, with pre-season starting even sooner, as in tomorrow, requiring Delonte getting on top of his game ASAP. He has not missed EVERY team event, showing up to Media Day, but in a world as competitive as the NBA, its all or nothing. Players need to give 100% of they will soon find themselves sinking to the bottom and eventually without a job.
Delonte still has a little time to pull himself together and work out whatever issues he has going on, but if he doesn't start soon, he won't make it through this season. And as good as the Cavs are, he is still a part of the team, and they need him to reach their full potential. So lets go Delonte, its GAME TIME.
