Everyone who knows me knows I hate the Boston Celtics. I disliked them greatly before last season, but their dirty plays against the Bulls in the Playoffs really sent me over the edge. Rondo's elbowing tricks, Big Baby's whining, and KG's cockiness only begins to scratch the surface in terms of the problem I have with Boston as a team. Granted I have a soft spot for Pierce, who has a pretty great swagger, and is not too bad on the eyes either, but not even he can make me warm up to such a team. However, watching the game tonight made me worried. Very worried.
Though the Cavs are not my favorite team in the league, and I am not head over heels in love with Lebron like the rest of the world (and my mom), I like them a lot. I like their team ethic, I like their plays, I like their colors and I could watch Mo Williams play for hours on end. But they did not impress me tonight. Despite Lebron's 38 points, which is not half bad for the first game of the new season, they played sloppy. Or at least more sloppy than a team like them should allow. Shaq, who got Cavs fans around the world excited by joining the team, missed some crucial baskets, and turnovers in general were far too common. The team did not seem insync at all and even though they only lost by 6, it was not a pretty sight.
But did the game go the way it did because the Celtics were playing well or because the Cavs were not? Personally I think its a little bit of both. The Celtics played decently (though it is more than obvious that the KG everyone once loved has yet to return, as his game is rusty to say the least) with Pierce having 23 points and Allen 16, but had the Cavs been more on top of their game, I believe they could have taken Boston down, or at least come a lot closer to doing so.
To me, the Cavs are one of the greatest teams in the league, and even though the Cetlics are known to be as well, I have faith that the Cavs will once again go farther than them in the longrun. Down with Boston. DOWN WITH BOSTON.
