Last Thursday, the reserves for the 2010 NBA All-Star game, this year being held in Dallas, were announced.
For the East we have: Chicago Bulls player Derrick Rose (who may I add is the first Bull to make the All-Star team since Jordan in 1998 so a big congrats to him and obviously I am more than thrilled about this), Boston Celtic player Rajon Rondo (who I am less than thrilled about seeing as not only is he a Celtic but he knocked around too many of my Bulls for my liking), Boston Celtic player Paul Pierce (another Celtic but one I actually respect), Toronto Raptor player Chris Bosh (amazing player with every right to be there, at least in my opinion), Charlotte Bobcat player Gerald Wallace (an understated player I do not know much about but from what I've heard is a superstar), Atlanta Hawk player Joe Johnson (such a beast and I can't wait to see him play) and Atlanta Hawk player Al Horford (who I not only have a crush on and swoon at his tweets in Spanish but who has greatly helped his Hawks keep up the solid record they have had so far this season). Overall, the only complaint I have is about Rajon Rondo, who I strongly believe should have been replaced by Mo Williams, but seeing as Williams is injured, and not everyone has a personal bias against the Celtics as a team, I can understand where the decision came from. I also think that Joakim Noah should have made the cut, seeing as hes second in the league as far as rebounds go and has made a tremendous improvement since last season but I have no doubt that if he keeps up the good work he will be there next year.
And for the West we have: Utah Jazz player Deron Williams (who has actually never been an All-Star before, something that took me by surprise seeing as hes such a leader), New Orleans Hornets player Chris Paul (of course), Los Angeles Lakers player Pau Gasol (who I agree with, despite my occasional annoyance with the Lakers, but many do not, thinking Chris Kaman should have gotten this spot instead), Oklahoma City Thunder player Kevin Durant (so deserved and I doubt anyone can or will argue against that),Dallas Mavericks player Dirk Nowitzki (I am still pretty surprised he did not make it as a starter but at least he will get to be there), Memphis Grizzlies player Zach Randolph (I have to be honest, I know close to nothing about him as I rarely get a chance to watch Memphis play), and Portland Trailblazer player Brandon Roy (someone I was not super keen on last season but have changed my mind about). Personally I think Monta Ellis should be on this list simply for keeping the Warriors afloat and for improving as a player, but otherwise I have no real objections to this list.
And there you have it. Combine my last blog post with this one and you have the full East and West rosters for the All-Star game this year. Whether or not you agree with all of the players is one thing, as I have expressed my conflicts too, but as always this year's All-Star game is sure to be crowd pleasing so whether you are in Dallas (like me) or at home watching it on tv, get ready for a great game.
