And the Off-Season Trouble Continues.

Who said theres no action in the NBA Off-Season?

Sources reveal today that Denver Nuggets' player J.R. Smith and Phoenix Suns' player Jason Richardson are both being suspended for a few games in the up coming season. J.R. will sit out nine games and Richardson two. I must admit that I don't regularly follow the Suns, but I think that the Nuggets are being hit a bit harder on this one, especially with J.R. most likely taking Dahntay Jones' spot in the starting lineup. J.R. has really stepped up his game recently, especially during the Playoffs, so hopefully he will stay out of future trouble and avoid any injuries as to only miss nine games in total. As small of a guy as he is he brings it and I love watching him give it his all.

In 2007, a passenger in J.R. Smith's car was killed, leaving him to be charged with reckless driving after which he spent some time in jail last month. Jason Richardson's situation is similar, as he too was charged with reckless driving but in his case he pleaded guilty to driving drunk (in Arizona), and fortunately no lives were taken in the incident.

I know NBA players are only human, but some of them need to start realizing that they are constantly in the public eye and that they undoubtedly will be punished for their mistakes should they be caught. With this said though, my heart goes out to J.R...I can only imagine the guilt he has to deal with daily. The NBA may be trying to punish him but I think just going through what he went through may have been punishment enough. After all, what is nine games compared to someone's life?
