For a long time now, Allen Iverson kept what happened between him and the Detroit Pistons on the DL, letting rumors spin out of control and predictions about his future be made with no boundaries. However, with a secure spot on the Memphis Grizzlies, he has decided that enough is enough, and has finally spoke out about what happened during his time with the Pistons.
AI claims that when he was first signed to Detroit, having been traded off of Denver, he was told he would start, as he always has. Instead, coach Curry had other plans, and made the final decision of AI coming off the bench, no questions asked. Although AI admits that a lot of his anger came from the fact that he was not starting, a part of it also came from the fact that he was mislead, and even lied to. He claims that right before coming over, Curry said "Allen we would never disrespect you or your career like that". in regards to coming off the bench, and now says that looking back, moving over from Denver was the "worst choice" he has ever made in his career.
AI has been through quite a lot in the past season, first with being traded to Detroit and it not being what he expecting, and then with a back injury, but hopefully things will go well for him this time around. Although he expresses some concern with playing for Memphis (if Memphis does poorly, one of two arguments will be made: he scored too much and gave no one else a chance or scored too little and wasn't a great enough leader), he is ready to start from scratch and expresses a great desire to win. As I've said in an older blog, I like AI, always have, and hopes he has a good season.
And as for Detroit, I wish them the best too, especially now that my man BG7 is on the team. Coach Curry has been fired as of July 1st, after only one season, so hopefully the team will get a much needed makeover and be the best they can be. I'm sorry for all AI when through but its now time to move on and start the season off on a positive note.
