Though so many rumors, trades and signings happen each day in the world of the NBA, its insane to think that there are still at least three months until any actual games (and yes, I'm including pre-season, because thats how basketball starved I am) take place. Don't get me wrong, I love waking up every morning to a flood of new tweets regarding what player is going where and then reporting back to all of you, but what I really long for are nights of double and triple headers where countless points are racked up, mind-blowing dunks are displayed and my favorite sleeper teams show the league what they're really made of. Yes, October can't come soon enough.
However, like I said, until then there is plenty of off-court NBA action, so lets get to it...
-According to several sources (including his own Twitter account), Tracy McGrady is considering the Chicago Bulls, the LA Clippers, LA Lakers and the Miami Heat and will be working out with the Chicago Bulls this upcoming Monday.
-Matt Barnes is headed to the LA Lakers (after many thought he'd end up on the Toronto Raptors) on a 2 year, $3.6 million deal (love him).
-Atlanta Hawks are rumored to be "close" to signing Josh Powell (I'm unclear as to what the final numbers will be at this point though).
-Philadelpia 76ers sign Tony Battie to a 1 year contract worth roughly $1.4 million.
-San Antonio Spurs resign Richard Jefferson.
-Chris Paul (or CP3 as many like to call him) has announced he wants to leave the New Orleans Hornets for either the New York Knicks, the LA Lakers or the Orlando Magic (personally I don't see the Lakers adding such a major player to their lineup after things have been going so well for them as is and I'm not sure the Magic can afford him, as another player, perhaps Emeka Okafor, would most likely be moved with him so I'm going to say that the New York Knicks have the best chance of landing him...)
-Chicago Bulls sign vet guard Kurt Thomas to a 1 year contract.
-Carlos Arroyo decides to stay with the Miami Heat (surprise surprise)
Now, as the summer is winding down, and a good number of free agents have already been signed, two questions remain constantly in the back of my mind. Where are Shaq and AI going to go?
Before "the decision" (I still can't believe such a title was even given), I thought Shaq would stay in Cleveland and help Lebron take another shot at getting the title, but now, I honestly have no idea. Shortly after the "new big three" announced they were all going to play together in Miami, I began to hear rumors that he too would join them, but after a few days those rumors turned into those of Shaq going to Atlanta, and since then I haven't heard anything new. And as for AI, for one reason or another I thought it was decided that he would return to the 76ers, but I'm now beginning to think that was just my assumption, and I have yet to hear a single sentence uttered of his next move. Would I love him to come play for the Chicago Bulls? Certainly. But not only do I know he is no longer favored by many (I went over this a few posts back), as he has had a rough year and a half, but I'm not even sure we can afford him at this point, so take that desire with a grain of salt. Whatever the case, I just want to know. And that goes for both of them. Make some moves you two. I'm waiting.
